The Arts District of Glens Falls announces a call to artists to design art for a public bench in Glens Falls.
Launched in 2015, the Arts District was created by the nonprofit arts and cultural organizations of Glens Falls with a goal of downtown beautification. This program enhances the cultural experience of the art-centered district.
Specifications are as follows:
We are seeking an artist to paint on a public bench in Glens Falls, to be a part of the Arts District of Glens Falls. The artist will receive a stipend of $750 to purchase supplies and complete the project.
An artist will be chosen based off of a preliminary sketch and resume of previous work. Once selected the artist will then be asked to provide a more detailed rendering and design within the outlined budget proposed.
Artist will be responsible to provide all their materials required, including paint, and bench prep materials/labor to complete their design. Transportation is an artist expense.

The metal frame will be blue and need not be painted. The wood is the paintable part.
The bench will be installed on Warren Street in Spring 2024.
Guidelines:
- Design and implication is of a high level and excellence
- UV Protection and anti-graffiti protection is required
- A primer base will likely be needed
- Durable – expected to last a minimum of 3 years
Process:
Interested artists must email their submission to [email protected] by Friday, September 15, 2023, by 3pm. Please include the following:
- Artist’s Resume with contact information.
- List of public art experience along with photos of public art you have completed
- Up to 5 photos of your work; does not have to be public art (at least 1,000 px by 1,000 px; larger is acceptable)
- Sketch of your public bench concept
- Written description of your artistic process and
- Availability to complete the artwork by November 25, 2023
- Artist’s signature on the proposal as it would appear on the bench
You may submit more than one proposal.
Timeline:
Deadline for applicants: Friday, September 15, 2023, by 3pm
Artist Chosen: September 25, 2023
Painting completed by: November 25, 2023
Artist Award: Artist will receive 50% before completion and 50% when complete.
